MALARVADI ARTS CLUB -- A feel good friendship tale!!

Vineeth Sreenivasan has a very good track record in Mollywood. He is a successful playback singer, album director and even as an actor he proved his mettle. Now DIRECTOR Vineeth Sreenivasan has made bold with an absolutely new idea and to his eternal credit makes it work with finesse and flashiness. Malarvadi Arts club is a well made movie. He redefines the meaning of friendship in this well portrayed tale. Moreover, Vineeth Sreenivasan was successful in formulating a right script that revolves strongly on 'Relationships'.

The story of 'Malarvadi Arts Club' revolves around the life and adventures of five friends in a village named 'Manassery' in Malabar side. . These five friends have reached an important point of their lives, having completed their studies and are in the lookout for a job, they have no other place for a hangout than their old children’s club. The Club is at the edge of destruction with new generation children showing no interest in group activities, other than those related to their studies. The five men in the film are good at heart, but they have different temperaments and are unique in their own way. The five some decides to somehow run the Club and organize better activities with the help of the local men. The director clearly works out the ‘Nostalgia factor’ by clearly portraying the inherent innocence of a village and village men, their life, their joys, sorrows, etc. Everything is excellent about this movie. Be it the direction, the flawless realistic script, the performances from the lead actors , the music etc. Just everything perfect for me.

The actor who portrayed the role of ‘Prakash’ steals the show with his top-notching performance. He emotes fantastically to all situations. Let it be his relented shades or the emotional outburst in penultimate sequences; he’s awesome. Much accordingly ‘Santhosh’ delivers a stupendous act and Purushu – the romantic hero steals the show. On the grounds of hilarious lines as well heart-touching moments, the actor has gone ahead in places. The two new actresses does justice to their roles. Salim Kumar was impressive and quite good at parts. I felt Suraj Venjaramoodu was not effective with his usual gimmicks and mannerisms. Did I forgot to mention Nedumudi sir’s performance? Well this role was just a cakewalk for him. He exhibited his brilliance and portrayed the role with consummate ease. P Sukumar's cinematography has innovative placements adding to the touch of screenplay’s pace. Now winding up this section, Shaan Rahman’s music is fresh and entertaining. His beats including the BGM merge with the movie’s theme. His rerecording could have been better and could have included another singer but nevertheless, a great show! Hard work from cast and crew is evident in the movie and eventually it had paid off.

For all you people who has been shedding tears about no good movie getting made nowadays, it is time for you to stop worrying, well for the time being at least, because this is a terrific movie! Definitely advised for all, who love good, meaningful cinema. Highly recommended.

My Verdict : 3.5/5

  3. I didn't felt that the movie was dragging. Infact I enjoyed the S Kumar's shots especially in the 1st half. I believe it came out the way Vineeth and S Kumar wanted it to be.

  4. well..the review is fine but felt a bit incomplete when u didn't mention KUTTU n PRAVEEN (which I don't mind):)

  5. Mistake from my side. Kuttu was successful in bringing that 'fun element' to his character. Praveen ain't had enough 'role' to prove his mettle.

  9. @Ashkar

Vineeth Sreenivasan and the whole acting crew are debutants. They were not my fav's. But the movie is enriched with inherent inncence with a flawless script and good acting performances. Well the melodrama with Nedumudi that you pointed out doesn't seemed too bad for me. And regading the 1st shot of the movie, I think the director tried to work out a level of 'Suspense factor' which eventually didn't paid off. But I didn't felt that as a -ve. I still believe Malarvadi deserve a 4.5. :)
